Buying a VVS diamond is a big commitment and you want to make sure that you’re fully aware of all the possibilities and outcomes. Below is a list of the pros and cons of buying a VVS diamond.
PRO- VVS diamonds are almost completely flawless, with any imperfections only visible under high magnification. These diamonds are flawless to the human eye, making them incredibly popular as they’re much easier and cheaper to get hold of compared to truly flawless diamonds.
PRO- VVS diamonds are often chosen down to personal preference, so if you know you want a VVS diamond, then that’s what you should search for. It might be suggested to you to consider VS diamonds instead for the lower price, but if you have your heart set on a VVS diamond, then that’s more than enough of a reason to buy one.
PRO- When it comes to buying VVS diamonds, there’s more of a variety available to you. If you’re looking for a large, high clarity diamond, then a VVS diamond is exactly what you want to buy. Looking at VVS diamonds also opens up more choices for colour and shape, giving you more options and meaning you’ve got more chance of finding the diamond that you’ve got in mind.
CON- VVS diamonds are rarer than the other, lower clarity options such as VS diamonds; however they’re not a particularly reliable investment. Diamond resale levels are pretty low, and it’s not very likely that you’ll be able to sell a white diamond for more than its original price. Depending on if the VVS diamond you pick has a unique colour to it may have an investment value; however that isn’t due to the clarity of the diamond, meaning buying a VVS diamond makes no difference.
CON- Although it is well known that VVS diamonds are very close to truly flawless diamonds, if you look at VS diamonds they look just as flawless to the human eye as VVS diamonds. It’s only under a microscope that a VS diamond’s flaws can be seen, so as much as you think you’re paying for flawlessness, when you compare the other options it may be worth opting for a VS diamond over a VVS diamond.
CON- As VVS diamonds are the closest thing to a truly flawless diamond, the price is higher. When comparing VVS diamonds and VS diamonds, the only difference to the human eye is the price difference – a VS diamond looks just as flawless to the naked eye and is considerably cheaper, so picking a VS diamond is sometimes the better option if you’re on a budget. Consider the two diamonds below; the left is a VS diamond, the right VVS. The difference is minimal, and so you should decide if paying the extra for a VVS diamond is something you want to do.
Overall, there are pros and cons to buying a VVS diamond. Only you can decide if you should buy it.
