How to Relieve Painful Symptoms of Heel Pain and Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of chronic heel pain, and it can affect both men and women of all ages. At best, plantar fasciitis can lead to frequent discomfort in your feet. At worst, the condition to cause severe pain daily and lead to complications ranging from back pain to heel spurs. Naturally, you should visit a medical professional to assess your condition and tailor a treatment plan to suit your unique needs. They may recommend treatments ranging from wearing cushioned footwear to undergoing surgery, but they might also suggest doing certain things to alleviate your painful symptoms and prevent the condition from returning.
One of the best ways to relieve pain from plantar fasciitis is to wear women’s orthotic thongs, which absorb some of the impact placed on your inflamed plantar fascia ligament, which runs from your heel to your toes. Here are a few other things you can do to either prevent the condition from arising in the first place or alleviate the painful symptoms:
Wear appropriate footwear
You should avoid wearing high heels at all costs because such footwear places tremendous stress on your heels and could exacerbate the painful symptoms of plantar fasciitis. Instead, wear shoes with extra cushioning, and consider using inserts to provide extra comfort. Also, avoid walking barefoot whenever possible, and choose shoes with a low to moderate heel. If you intend to exercise, avoid high-impact activities and wear athletic shoes that provide ample arch support.
Watch your weight
Losing a few pounds if you’re overweight is beneficial for your health for countless reasons, but it can also assist with alleviating the painful symptoms associated with plantar fasciitis. The more you weigh, the more pressure you place on your feet and heels when walking, which can cause further inflammation of your already inflamed plantar fascia ligament. Remember – maintaining a balanced diet and sticking to a low-impact exercise regime is beneficial for more than just treating plantar fasciitis. It also keeps you in good shape, boosts your confidence, improves blood circulation and much more.
Apply ice packs to any swollen areas of your heel
If you have plantar fasciitis, you may notice swelling near the ball of your heel and the underside of your foot, which can be painful and tender to the touch. To reduce the swelling, apply an ice pack to the affected areas for around 20 minutes up to four times a day. Doing so can also help reduce the inflammation in your heel.
Plantar fasciitis is a common condition. In fact, it’s one of the most commonly reported foot problems in Australia. It is estimated that one in ten people will suffer from plantar fasciitis at some point during their lives. Fortunately, it needn’t be a life-long condition if you seek treatment early, and you can relieve the painful symptoms of the condition by remembering the tips above.
